Depaul Blue Demons
History

DePaul University is the nation's largest
Catholic university with an enrollment of more than 23,000 students.
Founded in 1898 by the Vincentian Fathers as a school for children of
immigrants, DePaul today provides an unparalleled educational experience
for students from the Midwest, around the country and throughout the
world.
Depaul was founded by the Congregation of the Mission (or Vincentian)
religious community, which follows the teachings of 17th century French
priest St. Vincent de Paul. The university's mission emphasizes academic
excellence, service to the community, access to education and respect
for the individual.
DePaul University is the nation's largest Catholic institution of higher
education and is the seventh largest private, not-for-profit university
in the nation. Of the 10 largest private universities, all except DePaul
are classified as "research extensive" universities, making DePaul the
nation's largest university with a primary mission of teaching and
service.
Named for: St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660), The university derives its
title and fundamental mission from Saint Vincent de Paul, the founder of
the Congregation of the Mission, a religious community whose members,
Vincentians, established and continue to sponsor DePaul.
In 2000, Careers and Colleges named DePaul
one of 12 colleges that offer a top education at less-than-Ivy-League
costs. DePaul was recognized for its low tuition, a faculty with
outstanding teaching ability and rapport with students, and an
exceptionally diverse community.
DEPAUL UNIVERSITY FIGHT SONG
We will gather, 'neath the banner
'neath the scarlet and the blue
While in song we sing your praises,
praises for old DePaul U.
Let the battle wage and threaten,
yours the victory to claim.
While we fight beneath your standard
proud, exalting in your name.
